Ooooh, is fascism making a comeback ... ?

Glad ya like it. You'll be seeing a lot more of it.

Yes, it's very ... Stalinesque. I read somewhere that gulags are making a comeback, too. Should I start dressing in red?

What is a MARC Marshal? I’m beginning to think this is guerrilla art on a large scale. Supposedly, these posters also appear on Metro stations, along with the “MARC Marshals” logo.

I just emailed the MTA to get them to confirm/deny the existence of the posters in question. I'll post their reply as soon as I get it (I've seen this running elsewhere in blogdom, but that doesn't mean it's true).

And Snay, I'd say nah. I wouldn't start dressing in red, we have our own gulags now. Well, not precisely a "gulag," a little worse actually since people sentenced to gulags at least knew when their sentence was over. Plus, I operate on the BETTER DEAD THAN RED philosophy, don't you?

By that, of course, I mean BETTER DEAD THAN A RED STATE.

I've been looking around today as well (actually, mostly just reading the comment strings on the blogs). From what I can see, it looks like it might be a CSX campaign passinger awardness. Earlier I found the advertising company that supposedly designed it, but have since lost the link. It might just be true, but that doesn't explain what I've heard about them being seen in the Rockville Metro Station, or the "MARC Marshals" cowboy badge, both of which make me continue to scratch my head and suspend a fraction of my disbelief.

Yep. It's legit.

Just got this from MTA Customer Communications.

-------------
Lately, the MTA has received a number of inquiries from MARC riders concerning the "Watch, Ride & Report" poster which was commissioned by CSX last year.

MARC contracts with CSX for its commuter rail service on the Brunswick & Camden Lines. Both lines are owned and operated by CSX.

CSX has displayed the poster at rail facilities during the last year as part of its campaign to promote passenger security awareness.

It's tough to spoof what's already absurd, but I imagine we'll see some new Photoshopped versions up soon. I already saw one over at BoingBoing.
