GodWatch: Einstein Called Religion "The Most Childish Superstition"
In the past, I've heard the religious use Albert Einstein's quote, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind" as some form or proof of endorsement. A sort of, "See, even the world's greatest scientist said religion is necessary."
I wonder what they'll do with this.
The following quotes are excerpted from a letter Einstein wrote on January 3, 1954 to philosopher Eric Gutkind. The letter was recently put up for auction.
"The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish.
"No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.
"For me the Jewish religion like all others is an incarnation of the most childish superstition."
