Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.) today argued in favor of increasing greenhouse gasses, since, he claimed, the dinosaurs got by fine with a carbon-rich environment.

Shhh... nobody tell him that dinosaurs are extinct.

The earth will end only when God declares it’s time to be over. A man will not destroy this earth. This earth will not be destroyed by a flood. I appreciate having panelists here who are men of faith and we can get into the theological discourse of that position, but I do believe that God’s word is infallible. Unchanging. Perfect.

Resurrection Clause In Murder Plea Contains No Zombie Wording

Ria Ramkissoon, of 1 Mind Ministries, plead guilty to child abuse resulting in death (which I think most people would call murder) for starving her infant son to death.

What makes this especially unusual is the promise that charges will be dropped should her son be resurrected - which may be a legal first.

The unusual plea agreement also includes a "process of deprogramming" for Ria Ramkissoon and the promise that charges will be dropped if 2-year-old Javon Thompson is resurrected. Ramkissoon's attorney said his client insisted on the clause, which he believes is a first in American legal history, because she still holds out hope that her son will be brought back to life.

Prosecutors said the resurrection clause of the agreement stipulates a "Jesus-like resurrection, which is distinguished from a reincarnation" as an animal or object.

There doesn't seem to be any distinction in the quality of resurrection aside from reincarnated object or animal. Meaning, should her son Javon rise up as a zombie to feast on the flesh of the living, 22-year old mother Ria still gets to walk. Unless the courts argue that a zombie is an animal. And I for one would love to see a lawyer try to make that argument.

FOX's Beck Calls Himself And Viewers Idiots

FOX News' Glenn Beck is one of the most powerful conservative voices in the media these days.

Mr. Beck says he believes every word he says on his TV show, and the radio show that he still hosts from 9 a.m. to noon each weekday. […]

At the same time, though, he says he is an entertainer. “I’m a rodeo clown,” he said in an interview, adding with a coy smile, “It takes great skill.” […]

He added later: “I say on the air all time, ‘if you take what I say as gospel, you’re an idiot.’“

So why does he have one the most watched show on the second most watched network on cable? After all, the man just called himself an idiot.

Alert: NRO Warns Of Vampire Menace

Ultra Conservative National Review Online warns us of the growing vampire threat.

I’m all for multiculturalism, but this is too much. As Freud is supposed to have said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Likewise, sometimes the Other isn’t a cool countercultural rebel who puts a thrill up your leg, he is a monster who wants to suck your blood or, if he is technologically savvy and has a religious ax to grind, blow up your kids’ school bus. I’m not worried that the modern vampire movie will lead filmgoers to agitate for reconciliation with Osama bin Laden just because the terror master of 9/11 is also pale, has a funny accent, lives in a cave, and is a bloodthirsty egomaniac. But I do think there is value in entertainment that draws a clear line between good and evil.

On the surface, Twilight might be more suitable for preteens, but maybe they could use reminding that creatures that prey on communities don’t often make cool boyfriends. Because there are monsters, Virginia, and sometimes they just need killing.

No Logo: Kentucky Fried Potholes

Kentucky Fried Chicken is diversifying its business model - now moving in to privatized road repair.

Starting in Louisville, KY, KFC is filling city potholes. And then, of course, branding them with KFC logos.

According to the KFC press release:
The KFC Colonel and his professional road repair crew got started in their hometown of Louisville by filling up potholes and re-freshing roads around the city. KFC also issued an open offer to mayors of cities nationwide, asking them to describe their city streets' state of disrepair. Four of these lucky cities, chosen at random, will receive KFC's road re-"fresh"ment, promising citizens a smooth drive that is fit for a Colonel.

Or, we could just tax corporations on a rate comparable with the rest of the developed world and then use that money to pave the roads - without the fast food ads.

GodWatch: Texas Board of Ed. Goes After Science

The Texas Board of Education is seeking to undermine the theory of evolution by voting on new "science standards".

 The board -- considering amendments passed in January -- will hear from the public on Wednesday. It will then take votes -- an initial one Thursday and the final vote Friday.

"This specific attack on well-established science ignores mountains of evidence and years of research done by experts in a variety of fields," said Steven Newton, project director at the Oakland California-based National Center for Science Education, a proponent of evolution.

Newton said the board is considering other amendments casting doubt on well-established ideas in the earth and space sciences -- plate tectonics, radioactive decay and how the solar system developed.

Fox Sees Its Role In Media As Voice Of Opposition

FOX News admits to its role as "the voice of opposition" to the Obama Administration.

According to Bill Shine, senior vice president for programming at FOX News:
“With this particular group of people in power right now, and the honeymoon they’ve had from other members of the media, does it make it a little bit easier for us to be the voice of opposition on some issues?”

Remember back when legitimate media outlets were concerned with such quaint concepts as truth and accuracy? Not Fox.
