The man who warned us about Iraq's WMD (which, funny thing, turns out they didn't have any) is now warning the Obama Administration against growing government too big after serving in the Bush Administration - one of the most expansionist administrations in American history.
"I think one of the cautions that has to be given to the president — and I've talked to some of his people about this — is that you can't have so many things on the table that you can't absorb it all. And we can't pay for it all.
"And I never would have believed that we would have budgets that are running into the multi-trillions of dollars, and we are amassing a huge, huge national debt that, if we don't pay for in our lifetime, our kids and grandkids and great grandchildren will have to pay for it."
Odd how he wasn't parroting this conservative talking point when the Bush Administration which he was a part of blew up these debts. Of course back the most of our money was going to the military, military contractors, defense contractors and assorted mercenary corporations. Now that Obama wants to invest money into our own infrastructure instead of that in another country, Powell suddenly seems to take issue?
Source.
To be fair, buying things to kill people and then following through on it are noble enterprises, well worth the debt that Bush accumulated.
It is our duty as good Americans to make other countries do what we want. If you can't see that, then you're not a "real" American. Be an American, not an American't.
