Republican Sen. Coburn's (an anti-healthcarist) takes a question at a town hall from an understandably upset woman who needs help because for-profit health insurance won't help her with her husband's traumatic brain injury.
1. as a representative of government I will help you
2. government can't help your problems
3. only your neighbors can help us solve our problems
4. therefore we the people are not government
Okay, I'm not even sure how the hell this makes sense. But the folks clapping at his town hall seem to indicate that they think it makes sense.
New rule. If you don't believe government can work, if you don't believe government can help people, YOU DON'T GET TO RUN FOR OFFICE. How hard is that?
Oh, and psst... in a democracy the people ARE the government. So when you paraphrase Reagan's nonsense you are basically saying you don't believe in democracy.
What should we call people who seek to undermine the political system upon which our country was founded while professing an undying loyalty to an economic system that has nothing to do whatsoever with our founding principles?
Terrorists.
