The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a powerful group that exists to allow large corporations to actually write legislation to protect their interestes that is then delivered to mostly Republican legistlators in state houses across the country. Nearly 1/3 of all state legislators in America (again mostly Republican) are members of ALEC's network.
ALEC is currently holding its annual meeting in New Orleans. And when not busy being roughed up by security guards, bloggers have managed to get out paperwork showing a list of corporations financing this meeting.
These corporations, therefore, are funding pro-corporate legislation that is then delivered to legislators which they expect to be passed:
