Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley (D) continues to govern like a Republican.
He is seeking to once again raise Maryland's sales tax (a regressive tax) by 1%, or "1 cent" as supporters like to say.
O'Malley has already raised Maryland's sales tax 1% from 5% (the same as Virginia's) to 6% (which is the same as Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington DC). Under O'Malley's new proposal, Maryland's sales tax would be 7% - the highest out of all the states in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Perhaps, if Maryland is seeking ways to raise revenue, one way would be to stop giving millions after millions of dollars in tax breaks to rich developers.
