Well, it seems as if some of the rumors are true.
The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Giant Foods has acquired both the Fresh & Green's in Hampden (41st. St.) and in Parkville (on Harford Rd.) and will be opening locations there.
Giant will be moving its employees from the Rotunda location over to the 41st St. location and will also be offering jobs to 125 Fresh & Green's employees. Giant is a union market.
Did Fresh & Greens buy these markets to simply resell them later? They never delivered on the promise of renovations, nor did they really even bother to change the signage.
That leaves the question of what becomes of The Rotunda location.
What does the loss of this staple mean for the businesses there?
What does this mean to the folks who live across the street from the Rotunda in retirement communities who have depended on that location's easy access for food?
Will Giant continue to sit on and pay off its multi-year lease at the Rotunda to keep another grocery from opening in its location?
And whatever happened to that stalled Rotunda redevelopment project anyway?
Rotunda development insiders have leaked that there will be big news regarding the project this spring.
One rumor is that Johns Hopkins University, which acquired the vacated Zurich Insurance complex next to the Rotunda, has also bought the Rotunda.
Stay tuned. Whatever is going on up on 41st St., this is just the beginning.
A mock up of what the proposed Rotunda redevelopment would look like.
If JHU bought it I don't know about it. Not 100% but I probably would have heard...

Can I dream about a Trader Joe's moving into the old Giant space? Please?
