Hey, I'm not blaming anyone. I totally agree with the Shank's assessment of the problem. I just think most folks have an apathetic view as to their ability to do anything about it.

I think it's up to all of us to reduce crime in our communities, but I agree that the first step would be a reallocation of resources on a national level.

What do we expect to happen in our own country when our nation's main strategic priority at the moment seems to fighting a war? How do we not expect that culture of violence as a solution to trickle down? At the end of the day, I don't think we should be surprised at national crime rates.

Miss Ruby, I love you. But not everything I write or allude to is about you.

And I would also suggest that seeing an illegal war conducted in our name and an offensively obvious lack of accountability by those in charge - plus, Katrina sent a pretty clear message about how our government feels about its citizens - all add into the increase in violence.
